![]() Imam Abu Hamid Muhammad Al-Ghazali was born in 450 AH (1058 A.D) in the Iranian town of Tus, studied Islamic law and theology at the Seljuq College in Nishapur, and became a distinguished professor at the famous Nizamiyya University in Baghdad.ĭespite his glittering success, he was inwardly dissatisfied, so he abandoned his career for the life of hardship, abstinence, and devotion to worship. This translation has sought to retain the literary aspects of this collection while also applying an attentive engagement with the hadith employed within. This is a book that is intended to stir the heart to submission and mindfulness of Allah. Abu Ḥamid al-Ghazali, in his Book of Counsels, compiles powerful spiritual lessons and reminders, weaving hadith into direct speech and presenting it to the reader.
